Atomic Magnetometry

The Budker Group at the University of California Berkeley had developed a five-layer atomic magnetometer magnetic shield for room temperature magnetometry. However, when the shield’s original fabricator retired, they needed to find a new partner to improve its design and fabrication.

The existing version was complicated and expensive, and achieved an attenuation of 106. Our collaboration with the group led to a design that achieved an attenuation of 107, a full order of magnitude higher.

The success of this program and the publications that followed led to this shield being built for a number of similar programs in the United States and in Asia.
