Amuneal has collaborated with hospitals, research laboratories, and industrial companies in shielding superconducting magnets up to 15 Tesla. Amuneal's specially processed Ultra-low-Carbon-Steel (ULCS) has been used to reduce the magnet's stray fields to required levels in adjacent areas. These include the FDA's exposure standard (5G) for pacemaker and other biostimulation devices, as well as threshold sensitivity levels (1G) for most computer monitors.
In one application, ULCS was successfully installed to shield an NMR used for industrial material analysis from the effects of passing trucks and heavy equipment. Our technical specialists have extensive experience in designing magnetic shields for NMR and MRI applications which meet both symmetry and proximity requirements for ferromagnetic masses.
