Case Study #49574: Helical Stair

As part of this residential project, Amuneal worked with the architect and the end client to design a special staircase for their private study. Amuneal drew inspiration from the clients’ deep interest in both art and science in the development of the stair’s helical form.
Fabricated from 1/2” thick steel, the stair’s center was hand-cut from a 20” diameter steel pipe. Once the center and the tread supports were welded together, the ribbon- like handrail was fabricated to help define the final form.
Following the final fabrication process, the stair was finished in a hand blackened finish, highlighting the sculptural essence of this feature.
